The Giant Elk of Wisconsin
A very long time ago, thick sheets of ice covered much of the world and winter’s frozen grasp held tight as seasons passed, one into the next. A small sliver of open land in western Wisconsin known today as the Driftless area, was home to large herds of giant elk. Massive in size with antlers as broad as barn doors, looming tall against the stark terrain they feasted on the frigid grasslands that were their home. As the sheets of ice diminished, forests returned to Wisconsin and with them less room to roam the herds followed the receding ice north.
