The Devil’s Lake Horror
Find a quiet spot on the shore of Devil’s Lake and look across the still waters. Named not so much for the enormous beauty of place, but more for the eerie calmness of it. The Nakoda named it M’de Wakan, Bad Spirit Lake for what they knew of the terror that lurked in its deep black waters. Arms like long blades of lake grass, reaching up from the depths, too many to count, it’d stalk its prey, playfully at first, brushing an ankle, tickling the foot or harmlessly tangling a leg and letting go. Yet, in an instant, the quiet surface of the water erupts in a fury of tentacles, ripping and dragging the unsuspecting to the depths below returning the surface to a quiet calm.
